Free Boys Dance Workshop at Chichester Festival Theatre
We were so excited to lead a free fun boys dance workshop as part of the My Boy Can project at Chichester Festival Theatre on Sunday 6th October. The workshop was designed to inspire and encourage more boys to try dance regardless of age, ability or social background.
Hosted by ourselves and My Boy Can Project, it was a resounding success with over 30 boys turning up to enjoy the workshop led by Joey Bethell, international dancer and guest teacher at Boys Ballet Academy.
Boys Ballet Academy (BBA) was founded in January this year to open up more opportunities to boys in the region who love dance. The academy aims to provide opportunities and spread accessibility for boys in ballet, through the provision of fully inclusive, supportive and enjoyable classes as well as dance workshops in various styles.
BBA promotes inclusion not exclusion, and together with the My Boy Can project, organised the dance workshop to reach out to boys of all abilities that either dance or have thought about it, to come along and give it a go.
BBA currently offers regular ballet classes within the community for boys aged between 4-17yrs. In addition the academy frequently hosts one off dance workshops to encourage and inspire boys to try various styles of dance.
It is hoped that with this provision, boys can feel welcomed and confident enough to start dance classes regardless of age, ability or social background.
